Exciting News For Burke Hospice & Palliative Care

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care Reaches Highest Level in "We Honor Veterans" program

Thanks to the hard work and commitment of its staff, Burke Hospice and Palliative Care is now one of the most highly qualified organizations of its kind to serve military veterans in the state. In collaboration with We Honor Veterans — a partnership with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization — BHPC has achieved its highest accomplishment with the program and is considered a “level four partner.”
Vice President of Compliance and Education Christy Ingersoll said that all BHPC staff and leadership have made a total commitment to provide excellent care to veterans in the area. Also, a committee of local servicemen and women meets quarterly with BHPC to discuss the organization’s work.
“They help us make sure that we’re honoring our veterans in the right way, keeping us on track and helping us understand information that we might not otherwise understand,” Ingersoll said. “We continue to grow and educate ourselves, people in the community and physicians about this program. It allows our veterans to stay in the safety of their homes instead of traveling to VA facilities to receive end-of-life care.”
The BHPC program facilitates opportunities for local veterans under their care to spend time with volunteers who are also military veterans.

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care Receives “Footprints On My Heart” Grant

On Saturday March 1, 2014, Burke Hospice & Palliative Care (BHPC) received a grant from the Burke Women’s Fund(BWF) for “Footprints On My Heart.”
"We are honored and blessed to receive funds from this group," said Birgit Lisanti, President & CEO. "Their goal, to gain a deeper understanding of the issues that affect women and families in Burke County and provide impactful financial support which improves the quality of life for all, has assisted many organizations and provided well over $150,000.00 over the last 5 years."
“Footprints On My Heart” is for women and their families who are facing heartbreak and often overlooked bereavement needs during the time of prenatal or postnatal loss. BHPC is in the unique position to have the expertise in working with these families and facilitating the grief process. Counselling, bereavement materials, grief packets, a video and a shadow box to keep the tangible keepsakes, will all be provided to the families. Based on statistical data, BHPC expects to serve and support approximately 25 women and their families per year in Burke county.
Special thanks go to the BHPC Board of Directors for endorsement & support for this grant, the Burke Women’s Fund for support & funding, and to Merri Rudisill & Mary Ayers who have instrumental in writing the grant.

Congratulations to Burke Hospice for Being Named on Top 100 List of U.S. Hospices

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care has been named a recipient of Deyta’s first annual Hospice Honors Award, which recognizes the top 100 hospices nationwide who have achieved the highest customer satisfaction ratings. Deyta, LLC is a leader in helping organizations measure and manage customer satisfaction, with thousands of clients in health care and other industries.
“Hospice Honors defines a new standard of excellence in the patient/family experience for hospice agencies,” said Liz Silva, Deyta’s Director of Hospice. “Identifying these top-performing hospices is our way of recognizing organizations that have demonstrated high quality of care to both patients and caregivers. That positive family experience is a key driver of ongoing patient-focused care and overall agency success.”
To select the highest-achieving hospices, Deyta compared results of the 2012 Family Evaluation of Hospice Care (FEHC), a standard survey used by over 1,200 partnering hospice agencies from across the country. To qualify for consideration, hospices had to be partners with Deyta for the entirety of 2012 and have at least ten surveys returned. The top 100 hospices were then selected for having the highest ratings from caregivers in a variety of areas.
“We are proud to receive this prestigious award from Deyta,” said Birgit Lisanti, Burke Hospice President & CEO. “We review and utilize the results of our surveys to improve the quality of care on a continual basis. It is an integral part of providing excellent care and services to every patient and family we serve.”
