Grief Counseling - Your Partner In Healing
After a loss, you may experience many overwhelming emotions: sadness, anger, depression, guilt, and many others. You may want to be alone, or you may crave companionship. Friends and family members may not always understand what you are going through. Don't despair; Burke Hospice and Palliative Care will continue to be there for you during this difficult time—however long it may last.

The Help You Need, When You Need It
Burke Hospice and Palliative Care offers bereavement counseling and services that are tailored to each person's unique needs:
  • Private counseling sessions and personal support for 13 months after the loss
  • Group sessions for discussion  and sharing with others on the same path
  • Correspondence program with materials and resources for coping
  • Lending library with grief and  loss materials for people of all ages

A Support System For All Ages
Bereavement services offered by Burke Hospice and Palliative Care are available to adults and children in Burke, Catawba, Lincoln, Cleveland, Rutherford, McDowell, Avery, or Caldwell counties. All services are offered free, as a community service.

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care also assists with grieving by supporting and leading support groups for anyone in the community, regardless of using hospice service in the past. These community support groups are:

Community Grief Support Group
7 pm, Mondays, North Morganton United Methodist Church, 990 Sanford Drive, Morganton, NC 28655
Open to anyone who has experienced the death of someone special - parents, family members, friends, etc. There is no charge for participants.

Widows & Widowers Support Group
5-7pm, Second Tuesday of every month, East Valdese Baptist Church, 101 Eldred Street SE, Valdese, NC 28690
Open to anyone who has experienced the death of a spouse. There is no charge for participants.

Camp Dragonfly
Annual Youth Grief Camp
Camp Dragonfly is a free one-day camp for children ages 6-12 who have suffered a loss in their life. Any child can attend Camp Dragonfly, whether or not the family has been involved with Burke Hospice & Palliative Care.

To talk to a counselor about the loss in your life, call Burke Hospice & Palliative Care at 828/879-1601 and ask for the Bereavement Coordinator.
