Burke Hospice & Palliative Care Awarded Accreditation From The Joint Commission
Burke Hospice & Palliative Care announced that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective care.

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care underwent a rigorous survey evaluating its compliance in regards to key organization areas including provision of care, treatment and services, emergency management, human resources, individual rights and responsibilities, and leadership.

Established in 1988, The Joint Commission’s Accreditation program supports the efforts of accredited organizations to help deliver safe, high quality care and services. More than 6,000 organizations currently maintain accreditation, awarded for a three-year period, by The Joint Commission.

“When individuals engage a hospice provider they want to be sure that provider is capable of providing safe, quality care,” said Margherita Labson, RN, M.S., executive director, Home Care Accreditation program, The Joint Commission. As the home care setting becomes increasingly popular, it is important that hospice providers are able to demonstrate that they are capable of providing safe, high quality care. Accreditation by The Joint Commission and the gold seal serve as an indication that the organization has demonstrated compliance to these recognized standards of safe and quality care.”

“Burke Hospice & Palliative Care is very pleased to receive The Gold Seal of Approval and accreditation from The Joint Commission,” said interim CEO and president Daryl Brown. “We strive everyday to improve the quality of care provided to our patients and their families. The Joint Commission helps us to benchmark our organization with industry leaders across the country.”

The Joint Commission’s home care standards (includes hospice) are developed in consultation with healthcare experts, home care and hospice providers, as well as industry experts and consumers. These standards assist organizations in measuring, assessing and improving their performance and care.

Congratulations to Burke Hospice for Being Named on Top 100 List of U.S. Hospices

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care has been named a recipient of Deyta’s first annual Hospice Honors Award, which recognizes the top 100 hospices nationwide who have achieved the highest customer satisfaction ratings. Deyta, LLC is a leader in helping organizations measure and manage customer satisfaction, with thousands of clients in health care and other industries.
“Hospice Honors defines a new standard of excellence in the patient/family experience for hospice agencies,” said Liz Silva, Deyta’s Director of Hospice. “Identifying these top-performing hospices is our way of recognizing organizations that have demonstrated high quality of care to both patients and caregivers. That positive family experience is a key driver of ongoing patient-focused care and overall agency success.”
To select the highest-achieving hospices, Deyta compared results of the 2012 Family Evaluation of Hospice Care (FEHC), a standard survey used by over 1,200 partnering hospice agencies from across the country. To qualify for consideration, hospices had to be partners with Deyta for the entirety of 2012 and have at least ten surveys returned. The top 100 hospices were then selected for having the highest ratings from caregivers in a variety of areas.
“We are proud to receive this prestigious award from Deyta,” said Birgit Lisanti, Burke Hospice President & CEO. “We review and utilize the results of our surveys to improve the quality of care on a continual basis. It is an integral part of providing excellent care and services to every patient and family we serve.”
